The weather has been really amazing so far, but you can feel the difference in temperature each day we go further north.
Today we made it as far as Prince Rupert. We’re just on ‘this side’ of Rupert, so we haven’t gone into the city yet.
Driving along Highway 16 is so incredibly beautiful. It’s truly awe-inspiring in the greatest way. Every curve in the road exposes another amazing scene. It’s ever-changing in the light as well. While we live in one of the most beautiful places on earth and never take it for granted, you simply can’t believe things get more and more beautiful the further we go.
It’s really quite exciting!
We travelled along the Bulkley and Skeena Rivers today. They join near Hazelton.

These rivers are the most stunning colour. It was really wonderful travelling alongside the river for most of our day.

It seemed as though with every turn in the road, the mountains just became more and more majestic. I took dozens of photos, but they simply don’t do the scenery justice. Some sections of the highway are brand new, and so the conditions were ideal for a leisurely drive.

If we didn’t have the river as our companion along the 16, the trains were there. We just aren’t used to seeing so many trains. It really made us think about the sheer volume of ‘stuff’ that needs to get moved through the country. We’ve also seen more logging trucks here in a day. than you will in an entire season out on the back roads where we usually wander.

Eric had located a few boondocking spots to check out just before heading into Prince Rupert. We settled on one that is right on the edge of Morse Inlet. What a treat! The second you opened the van door, you could smell the salt air. Forever and a day, that is one of my favourite smells.
The view is unmatched. I swear – we have so many ‘favourites’ it’s one of the reasons we decided to keep this blog – to remind us of all the little and big things we’ve seen and experienced.

Again, this evening’s choice hit the mark. Our view was pretty special.
We spent the afternoon relaxing – I even had a nap!
We enjoyed a bit of sun before Eric needed to open up the awning. Even the dogs were looking for a bit of relief.
A few locals came by to either sit by the water or go for a bit of a walk. A fellow came out and popped his kayak in the water. He said he had a couple of crab traps he was going to check. When he came back in, he offered us a fresh crab! So he showed Eric how to clean it and told us how to cook it.

It truly doesn’t get fresher than that! So we cooked them up, melted some butter, and had an amazing treat as the sun set.

The crab was so melt-in-your-mouth delicious, you didn’t even need butter – but who are we to waste it?
